I've got three new ones to show you, starting with the uninspiring looking remake of the 1977 slasher film THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.  Maybe the actual film will be better but the trailer left me a bit cold.  Then we have an intriguing Tommy Lee Jones western called THE HOMESMAN.  This one has a great cast and could be really, really good.  Finally we have Julianne Moore in David Cronenberg's latest MAPS TO THE STARS.  It's Cronenberg and that automatically makes it a must see for me.  Enjoy the trailers and let's hope the movies (at least for the last two) live up to the hype.  SO SAYETH THE KENDOG!

Richard Linklater may be one of the most visionary filmmakers working today. His After trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy may be the most romantic trio of movies ever put to film and his rotoscoping animated sagas such as A WAKING LIFE and A SCANNER DARKLY are wonderfully expressive pieces of art. However, Mr. Linklater may have topped himself with BOYHOOD, a film about growing from a boy to a man that was filmed over a period of twelve years, using the same actors. It is a deeply personal, moving film that feels much swifter than its nearly three hour running time and it is my new number one pick for film of the year so far.

Today we've got some intriguing releases for you, including what looks to be a welcome return to form for Michael Keaton in BIRDMAN.  We also have Tom Hardy in the crime thriller THE DROP, and an intriguing release called LAND HO!,  a buddy comedy featuring to older newcomers that looks to be a wonderful time at the movies.  We're getting into the fall season, which means the choices of films may be limited but the quality may actually be better.  Judging from the trailers to these movies, I'm cautiously optimistic.  Enjoy!  SO SAYETH THE KENDOG!

You know, you have to admire a fellow like Pierce Brosnan. The man has managed to have a successful career even after his popular turn for four films as James Bond and he’s done so by playing in smaller, more emotionally intense roles while staying, by and large out of the limelight. Now while I enjoy some of his smaller works like THE TAILOR OF PANAMA or GHOST WRITER, the kid in me always wondered if Brosnan would ever re-enter the field of violent secret agents again. With THE NOVEMBER MAN, the answer is a resounding yes, and although the film is a tad uneven at times, Pierce still manages to kick ass in an entertaining fashion.

Got some new stuff for you, including the new trailer for the CONJURING prequel ANNABELLE, a returning Antonio Banderas sci-fi thriller, and a critically well reviewed film about a long time gay couple who suddenly find themselves homeless.  All of these movies are intriguing in their own way and each trailer has piqued my interest.  Hopefully they will pique yours as well.  Enjoy!  SO SAYETH THE KENDOG!
